IPPE Flashback: Water acidification to support poultry performance

Ensuring water quality is vital for animal health and productivity. Clean and disinfect the water system if needed. Flushing pipes with hydrogen peroxide removes biofilm, and chlorination maintains quality. Some farmers acidify water to pH 5.5-6.0 for optimal HOCl, while others adjust pH after chlorination. Giseli shared advice on water acidification at IPPE 2025.

Water acidification

Ensuring water availability and quality is crucial for animal health and productivity. If there are concerns about water quality, it is recommended to clean and disinfect the water system. Flushing water through pipes and using hydrogen peroxide can effectively remove biofilm, while chlorination is a highly efficient method to maintain good water quality.

Some farmers acidify the water to a pH of 5.5-6.0 to achieve the highest concentration of HOCl. However, other farmers adjust the water pH only after chlorination, focusing on enhancing animal performance and health. In her interview with Engormix during IPPE 2025, Giseli shared practical advice on maintaining animal performance through water acidification.
