WaterWise Farming: Best practices to guide animal producers in ensuring water quality

Water acidification

On the 22nd of March every year, we celebrate the significance of water and this year's theme: 'Glacier Preservation.' The central focus of World Water Day is to support Sustainable Development Goal 6: ensuring water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Water is essential not only for human survival but also for the health and well-being of animals and the livestock industry. In this page, we presented a set of videos that will cover various aspect of maintaining water quality for the animals. Together, we can make a positive impact on the world, one drop at a time.

WaterWise #1: The importance of water for optimal performance

Reduced water consumption can signal health issues, making water availability and quality vital for animal well-being and productivity.

Monitoring water quality on farms is essential for promoting agriculture and protecting the environment. Prioritizing water quality ensures peak performance and optimal health for animals.

WaterWise #2: Maintaining good quality water for livestock

Chlorination uses hypochlorous acid to kill bacteria, maintaining a chlorine residual of 3-5 ppm for effective microbial control.

Acidification lowers pH to prevent harmful microorganisms, with organic acids enhancing microbial control, especially for young animals.

WaterWise #3: Improve animal performance starts with water acidification

A compilation of 36 studies (16 with piglets, 20 with broilers) globally demonstrates the benefits of buffered organic acids in supporting animal health & efficient production:

Piglets: Increased average daily water intake with Selko water acidifier with improved growth performance. Broilers: Improved performance across various production systems, climates, and housing conditions.
